So there's that old saying: Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. A. Einstein I've been single for about a year now after an incredibly painful (and rather humiliating) breakup. I knew that I had been making not-so-great relationship choices and wanted to do things differently going forward. After a few false starts and some reflection and therapy, I decided I needed to take a break from dating altogether for a while to focus inward, reclaim my personal happiness, and determine what about my behavior was contributing to making those not-so-great relationship choices. One thing I immediately identified was that literally since I left high school, I have never gotten involved with anyone who I knew first as a friend. There have been a series of insta-relationships arrived upon either through random accident or online dating, but nothing that evolved from being socially connected and gradually developing admiration, respect, and fondness to go along with whatever physical attraction might be there. So, I'm committed to the idea of being friends first! Of course, no one in my current social group has relationship potential. I'm branching out and trying to make new friends (both male and female) to broaden my scope a bit. But here's the thing: how do I maintain distance when I'm interested? How do I spend time getting to know someone I'm attracted to without letting it become romantic? My move fast die hard strategy is hard to overcome! Suggestions are most welcome!
