Until age 25 or so, they are all self centered. They have limited life experience and focus on the negative instead of seeing the good. My are 16, 18, 23 26. You are not only building a relationship for her, you are showing her how a can treat her. It's a difficult situation and I know it. I read the other post and know how difficult it is for you. Please be there for her. Even if she's a bit**, even if she ignores you, kicks and screams about coming over and treats you horribly. She hurts and is taking it out on you because she knows you're not leaving. Once my 18 yr old was behaving worse than worse. I had to sit her down and inform her that no matter what, I would always be in our house, she would always have a key and I wasn't leaving her life. No matter what. I believe that happened when she was 12 or so. She was having a truly rotten time with her dad and questioned so things. It took time, believe me and she hurt so badly but she got to a point where she stopped acting out, being rotten and being inconsiderate. We've had numerous discussions since then. She spoke with her friends, aunts/uncles, siblings and therapists about the pain and anger over the divorce. She feels her own way about it (which is understandable) and is now emotionally. Best of luck to you Dixon. The teen years are difficult with intact families. I wonder if your daughter has expressed suicidal ideas and that's why the counselor doesn't want he to come over. Could that be? If she has, it's a mandatory reporting situation. This sounds like a counselor to drop. You never know what a manipulator is saying and can be truly talented manipulators.
